NHS Student Contract (Summit High Chapter)


Article I: General Membership

Section 1: Members must maintain a cumulative, un-weighted, grade point average of 3.5 or above.

Section 2: Members must pay an annual $10 membership due to the Summit High School Bookkeeper. (No exclusions from club, if member is unable to pay dues. Please see the faculty advisor if unable to pay fee.)

Section 3: Members must attend all Honor Society meetings during each semester. If a member needs to miss a meeting, he or she needs to notify the faculty advisor prior to the meeting.

Section 4: Members must meet the standards of leadership, service, and character, which are measured in terms of integrity, behavior, ethics, and cooperation.

Section 5: Members must complete community service requirements in Article II.

Article II: Community Service Requirements

Section 1: Members are required to complete a minimum of 12 community service hours per semester. Community service is defined as services volunteered by individuals or as a part of an organization to benefit a community or its institutions.

Section 2: Of the 12 total community service hours, members need to have at least 5 Group and 7 Individual hours. Group hours count as individual hours, but individual hours do not count toward group hours.

Section 3: Group hours are defined as hours in which the project or organization has been adopted by the Summit Chapter of the National Honor Society. Examples are (but not limited to) peer tutoring, volunteering at the Bend Community Center, the Humane Society, and the American Red Cross.

Article III: Deadlines

Section 1: Members must have their community service hours for each semester completed and submitted to the drop box in the counseling office five (5) schools days before the end of the semester

Article IV: Membership Status

Section 1: Members must meet all of the requirements by the end of each semester, as specified in Articles I-III, in order to maintain membership status in the Summit Chapter of National Honor Society.

Section 2: All deadlines must be met, as specified in Article III, to maintain membership status in the Summit Chapter of the National Honor Society.

Article VI: Dismissal

Section 1: Upon failure to fulfill the requirements of membership, a member will be considered for dismissal.

Section 3: Disciplinary infractions that result in suspension from Summit High will result in the immediate consideration of dismissal from the Summit National Honor Society.

Section 4: Once a member is dismissed from the club, he or she may not rejoin the Summit National Honor Society.
